Sunfield’s Facilities

Creating a healthy and caring environment, with state-of-the-art resources, to enrich children’s learning and living.

Landscape

Sunfield is set within 58 acres of idyllic parkland, nestled on the slopes of the Clent Hills, overlooking the beautiful Worcestershire countryside. The grounds themselves include a farm and walled garden, with lovely natural trails for exploration and adventure, as well as play areas with trampolines and outdoor sensory areas with calm spaces – all are designed to enable the children to engage, relax, exercise and have fun – safely and securely.

School

We have several spacious classrooms with bespoke furnishings and interactive whiteboards, and other smaller buildings for students who need more individualised approaches. The school building also has designated rooms for cookery, arts, games and administration, along with a farm classroom, a large theatre, lecture room and meeting rooms. The children have access to a range of technology to support their communication and learning, including items such as iPads and other Alternative and Augmentative Communication aids.

Residential

We have 6 residential homes, each accommodating 3 to 6 children on the basis of their age, needs, and compatibility with each other. The majority of the houses are fully self-contained with their own gardens, direct-dial telephone and internet access, and most have their own sensory room. Young people also benefit from the privacy and individuality of their own bedrooms, which they are encouraged to personalise.

Therapeutic

Sunfield is fortunate to have a host of dedicated on-site therapy facilities, including a soft play and light therapy room, a state-of-the-art sensory integration suite and a sensory room which, when combined with our resident Psychology and Therapies team, enable young people to benefit from regular meaningful therapy sessions to support their learning and living. The young people also have the use of instruments, devices and equipment to support therapies such as music, speech and language, and occupational therapy, as well as toys and items to support play therapy.

Families

Your child will have access to services such as a telephone, email and Skype, to keep in touch, and we offer dedicated private spaces for you to enjoy scheduled family visits. We have two self-contained flats: one for up to six people with two twin bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and shower room with toilet; and a second larger centre with two en-suite bedrooms sleeping up to four people, a large lounge with bed-settee and a dining kitchen. We have two additional visiting rooms for use during day visits. All facilities have computers with internet access. There is also an information centre containing leaflets, videos, DVDs and a Family Library.

Catering

We have a communal dining room at Sunfield, serving home-cooked meals to staff and children. Please click the link to see our Fact Sheet on Healthy Living and Nutrition at Sunfield. Our catering department has a 5* award for food hygiene. Young people have opportunities to get involved in preparing, ordering and serving food in the dining room, as well as in our on-site cafe, which provides an ideal simulation opportunity for older children as they prepare to visit a community-based restaurant.

Transport

In addition to our on-site facilities, we have a fleet of vehicles which enable students to access appropriate community-based leisure facilities such as shopping, cinema, bowling and swimming. Some students also attend community clubs and events on a regular basis.
