A new chapter for Sunfield
Sunfield’s new school buildings were officially opened on Tuesday 29 September 2009, by Lord Cobham. “The opening of the new school marks the culmination of a long period of research and consultation to make sure that the building best meets the needs of our pupils,” said headteacher, Mrs Lesley Gaukroger. A special concert in aid of Sunfield by Eurovision winners Brotherhood of Man and Bucks Fizz almost had to be cancelled when the original sponsor was forced to withdraw from supporting the event, but local businessmen, Mike Brown of Dreamland Beds in Brierley Hill and electricals retailer, Geoff Hill stepped in and saved the day and agreed to back the event themselves. On Wednesday 29th July 2009, The Provincial Grand Master of the Worcestershire Mark Master Masons, Right Worshipful Brother Francis Charles Spencer visited the school to formally hand over the keys to the vehicle. The Park Road franchise which deals in Ford commercial vehicles and DAF trucks will make a cash donation to Sunfield for every new Ford van sold during the six months up to the end of December. Funded by BBC Children in Need, Sunfield's Voice for Choice project explored ways in which young people with learning disabilities and mental health problems could be supported and facilitated to make informed choices about their types of treatment and therapeutic interventions. The resulting resource pack includes materials that were designed and trialled with young people to enable them to participate and have choice over decisions about the support they receive for mental health difficulties and their daily care.
