CARE STAFF
Back
Each house at Sunfield has its own dedicated team of staff led by a Team Leader. The number of staff in each house is dependent on the number of children living in the house and their assessed needs; some may have additional funding through the LEA or SSD for extra staffing hours.

The minimum staffing ratio during the day is one member of staff to three children. However in all houses when there are four or more children on house there are always a minimum of three staff on any shift between 7am and 10pm, so in reality the working ratios are higher. There are two waking night staff in each house from 9pm to 7am.

Each shift is led by either the Team Leader, one of the Deputy Team Leaders or a Senior Care Support Worker. There is a 'hand over' time for each shift to pass on information to the next shift.

There is a Care Manager on duty from 7am - 10pm and on sleep in / call throughout the night. There is also a Night Team Leader on waking duty every night who responds to any emergencies by assisting night staff on each house and who also randomly visits each house throughout the night. There is also site security personnel employed at night. A twenty four hour Senior Management Team 'on call' rota ensures further back up, advice and support to the first line senior staff on duty. The Senior Manager is always within a short travelling distance of Sunfield when 'on call'.

All applicants for employment are required to complete a full application form detailing their employment history, qualifications and experience and stating they are in good health (internal applicants for promotion are also required to complete a new application). Applicants must also disclose any criminal offences and consent to Criminal Record Bureau checks. Once appointed the new member of staff is on a six month probationary contract. During this period he/she must complete Sunfield's Induction Programme.

Sunfield places great importance on Continuing Professional Development for employees. We recognise the particular value of in-service training and have our own Professional Development Centre. We also have qualified assessors, and many care staff, depending on their position, have already obtained or are registered for NVQ levels 3 and 4.  Another supported route to qualification includes a BA in Social Welfare from University College Worcester.
