SUNFIELD'S FAMILY CHARTER

Sunfield welcomes all our children's families, friends and others significant in their lives.

This charter describes how we at Sunfield aim to work with our families.

From Sunfield our families can expect:

respect
honesty and integrity
confidentiality
regular communications
empathy
supportive listening
information and advice
partnership
a safe environment for your child

We will:

work together for the benefit of your child
value your opinion and knowledge of your child
respect your need for privacy and confidentiality
make regular contact
show care and concern for your parenthood
be non-judgemental and giving of time
working together for the benefit of your child
provide a private space for your family to spend time together

In practical terms, we will provide the following:

support in facilitating visits
Family Centres for overnight stay, or space to share with your child
letters, gifts and photographs to family members from your child
a family library/resource centre
training events for all family members and friends
events for siblings eg Sibshops
directory of Family Services
a Family Newsletter each term
house newsletters
planned systematic telephone calls and email
telephone links between existing and new Sunfield families for befriending, information and support
invitations to Family Days, Open Days and Festivals
reports on your child's progress at school and in their day to day lives
preparation of a family profile for your child which includes photos of family, friends, neighbours, pets etc.

At Sunfield, we expect our families to:

be honest and open
maintain regular contact with their child
attend family open days
share their concerns with us
communicate regularly with key staff
provide relevant information when required
respect the professional boundaries with which staff have to work
have regard for our capabilities
inform us of significant changes affecting the family

The Sunfield Family Charter has been ratified by a focus group of family representatives
