New specially designed classroom facilities for children with profound learning disabilities
£3.5 million approx.
Sunfield is considered to be at the forefront of special needs education and has an excellent reputation nationally and internationally for its groundbreaking teaching techniques and education strategies.
To develop these methods further and meet the complex needs of the children who are in our care, we must update the teaching facilities we currently provide.
Research and experience has shown that a traditional classroom environment is not appropriate for children with profound autism and challenging behaviour.
Our plans for the new school buildings include state-of-the-art classroom facilities with suites of teaching spaces for small groups of children, high ratios of staff to children (in some cases one-to-one), individual workstations for each child and separate 'cooling off' rooms and wash areas.

Our plans are in line with the Government strategy report 'Building Schools for the Future' (DfES 2004) which states that "too many of our schools are in buildings that have reached the end of their design life. We need to create environments that inspire and support both pupils and teachers, that drive innovation, and that deliver personalised learning."
The new development will cost around £3.5 million to complete and this is being raised through a massive fundraising appeal as, although Sunfield is a registered charity, as an independent organisation, we are not eligible for government funding for this project.
If you would like to help us to build this essential new facility, you can donate online through Just Giving's secure website or send your donations to us by post to:
