Eight new pieces of outdoor gym equipment have recently been installed at Sunfield, giving our students, who have complex needs including autism, further opportunity for leisure activities on site and encouraging fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
This project has been fully funded through a single donation of £18,000 from a group of Midlands based property/building companies who get together specifically to raise funds for charity, mainly via their annual awards evening in Birmingham, and who collectively call themselves ‘Property for kids’.
The individual pieces of equipment have been selected by Sunfield’s Occupational Therapist in consultation with other key managers and staff and include three pieces of equipment for younger children under 1.4m in height and five pieces for young people and adults above 1.4m in height (as shown below). The equipment has been installed on rubberised ‘wet-pour’ safety surfacing, with different colours to identify which equipment is for young children and which equipment is for students over 1.4m.
