Sunfield takes expertise down under
Experts from Sunfield headed off down under to promote their work and research on special needs - at the request of the New Zealand government.
Sunfield chief executive and principal, Professor Barry Carpenter led the team which had been chosen by the New Zealanders to provide extensive training on the most recent developments in special educational needs.
They took part in a two week lecture tour which began on Thursday, 22 March.
Professor Carpenter said: "This is a remarkable and an inspirational achievement for a small charity such as ours and shows just how important our research, teaching and care methods are regarded not just nationally but internationally.
"We are always happy to share our knowledge but more and more governments are paying for our expertise, which is an important factor for a charity always struggling for donations and funding."
The trip included a three-day conference in Hamilton to all special school principals and special education needs government workers from across New Zealand.
During the tour, the team launched a book, 'New Horizons', about their practice and research and also led workshops in Auckland and Christchurch.
En route, Professor Carpenter stopped off in Japan to advise the Japanese government's department of special education on the future of autism provision. |
