Sunfield launches Sunfield @ Sherborne training DVD

After a two year collaborative study between Sunfield School and the Sherborne Association UK, Sunfield has launched a new training DVD, Sherborne @ Sunfield - an adapted teaching approach for children with autistic spectrum disorders.

Sunfield has produced a new training DVD presenting the Sherborne @ Sunfield adapted teaching programme

Sherborne @ Sunfield is an exciting adaptation of the Sherborne Developmental Movement programme designed specifically to address the diverse and unique learning needs of children and young people with severe learning difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders, with a view to supporting improvement of their social and communication skills.

The DVD is available to those who attend a Sherborne @ Sunfield training course and is designed for use by people working with children and young people with severe learning difficulties, including autistic spectrum disorders.  It was produced in consultation with the Sherborne Association UK.

There are three sections to the DVD:
  • the staff training film provides a brief history of Sherborne @ Sunfield and shows a practical lesson with pupils with autistic spectrum disorders

  • the demonstration section focuses on best practice in implementing the programme and examples of practical work with pupils

  • the final section covers other elements required for the successful delivery of the programme
Sunfield, an organisation which operates a 24 hour curriculum for children with severe and complex learning difficulties, the majority of whom have autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), was ideally situated to investigate the resonance of the Sherborne Development Movement (SDM) programme with the concept of engagement in the 21st century.

The new DVD costs £15.

Background
The Sherborne Developmental Movement Programme has been found to be particularly beneficial for children with learning disabilities, children with physical disabilities and children who are emotionally and behaviourally disturbed.  Between September 2005 and August 2006, research was undertaken by Sunfield into adapting the teaching approach of this programme to meet the needs of children with profound autistic spectrum disorder.  Sunfield Research Institute is happy to share information on this study and the research findings. A copy of the executive report for the study can be downloaded here.

Sunfield Professional Development Centre offers training in the theory and practice of the Sherborne @ Sunfield programme. For details, see our courses calendar.

None of this work could have been undertaken if it wasn’t for the financial support of the Three Guineas Trust.
