Working with education
- We work in mainstream and special schools and in colleges
- We address the concerns that are specific to an individual young person or educational setting, working with the staff within their context
- We build local capacity through sharing our skills and experience with staff
- We provide support for children and young people who present challenges as a result of their Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- We work alongside teaching staff and assistants to demonstrate ASD-specific approaches
- We work with local agencies, such as speech and language therapy and behaviour support teams
- We assess and structure the environment, and advise staff on how to modify the educational setting to cater for the needs of the pupil with ASD
- We assess and structure the curriculum to cater for the needs of the pupil with ASD
- We provide formal and informal training in good ASD practices
- We maintain a telephone helpline for staff in schools, colleges and other settings with whom we have worked
- Schools have told us that our support makes them feel more confident in working with pupils with ASD
- We support transitions into, between and within schools and colleges
- We provide flexible support, and withdraw at an agreed rate to ensure sustainability of the programme
- We also support children and young people who are not currently attending school
