Who are we?
The SAOS team is a multidisciplinary group of specialists who work closely together to assess, plan and provide support for children and young people with challenging behaviour and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- We work throughout the West Midlands region, collaborating closely with local service providers.
- The team is experienced in a number of specialist approaches to ASD.
- We have staff who are qualified and experienced in the provision of TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped CHildren)
- We also have experience in Intensive Interaction, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)
- Team staff have knowledge and experience of a wide breadth of developmental and curriculum levels, having applied the full range of the National Curriculum, including P-scales.
- We have specific experience in visual impairment and its impact on young people with ASD.
- The core team provides Teaching, Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, and Outreach Worker support. We can also draw upon professionals with additional expertise, e.g. Occupational Therapy, Sunfield’s Health Team.
- Every team member has extensive experience of ASD and challenging behaviour in a broad range of special and mainstream settings.
- Every team member holds an up-to-date Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check at enhanced level and works to the highest standards of professional care and responsibility.
- Every team member is trained in a nationally recognised technique (CALM or SCIP-RUK) for behaviour support which ensures the safety and dignity of everyone concerned.
