Sunfield’s on-site Psychology and Therapies department offers a holistic, comprehensive and detailed assessment and therapy provision, which is individually tailored to each child at our residential special school. Their invaluable insight and input provides a deep understanding of the children’s complex and multi-faceted needs, and helps to formulate strategies through which children can overcome barriers, and be supported to maximise their potential.
Our specialist team is comprised of psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and a range of emotional therapists, including a child psychotherapist, play therapist and music therapist. Our invaluable Family Services and Sunfield Assessment and Outreach Service also sit within the Psychology and Therapies team.
Lotty Riggs is the Psychology and Therapies Team Manager, and Behaviour Development Coordinator. Lotty also coordinates the Sunfield Assessment and Outreach Service and supports Family Services by providing a point of contact to families in need of psychological or therapeutic related advice relevant to the progress of their child.
The Psychology and Therapies department works closely, as members of a ‘Team Around the Child’ – sharing knowledge, insights and experience with colleagues in our education and residential settings. This integrated approach ensures that every child’s psychological, emotional, occupational, sensory processing and communication needs are fully identified and met.
The expert team also provides training to staff and families, alongside emotional support, facilitated reflection and proactive planning. The focus is on empowering staff and families to feel confident in understanding and supporting the children, through challenging times, and times of development.
