CALM (Crisis and Aggression Limitation Management) training is also an important core provision for all new staff. You will attend 2 day theory course, with staff in child-facing roles also attending an additional 2 day practical and physical intervention training programme. CALM is an holistic approach to working with individuals who challenge, and will enable you to engage in proactive methods of behaviour support and to develop an understanding of approaches to preventing a crisis. You can learn more about CALM by reading the Fact Sheet on CALM at Sunfield.
You can also undertake additional training and qualifications specific to your role, such as the QCF Diploma in Care for Care Workers, shortly after your induction.
We actively support and encourage learning activities and opportunities here at Sunfield, whether they be structured training schemes or informal exchanges of knowledge and experience in the working day.
One recent example is a five-day intensive course in ‘Effective Communication through Interactional Coordination’, undertaken by a group of Sunfield staff, along with international visitors from Lebanon. The course was led by Swiss expert, Andrea Alfare, and was deemed to be of huge benefit to staff and students alike.
The level and variety of expertise among the multi-disciplinary on-site teams here at Sunfield make this an excellent environment in which to learn while you work. By working together, and sharing our expertise, we believe that everyone benefits – most notably, of course, our children.
