Sunfield has been described as a ‘home-from-home’, and we are proud of all our residential accommodation. Rooms are furnished and equipped to meet each student’s individual needs. This means that no two rooms are the same and there is an almost continuous programme of alteration and customisation.
As we are currently experiencing a rising demand for places for higher needs students who require at least 2:1 (staff:student) ratios within individualised learning and living environments, we are developing a new type of accommodation and the first house to be completed was Elm House, which was fully funded through donations.
The building was split into four zones; three of these each provides a bedroom, living/learning room, kitchenette and bathroom for one student, while the fourth zone contains a shared sensory room, communal waiting/seating area, a central laundry, staff office and a staff washroom. This required considerable building work e.g. removing walls, relocating the laundry, creating new bathrooms and kitchens, work to the garden areas and a general refurbishment of all other areas in and around the building.
The work to Elm House cost around £260,000 to complete and we successfully raised all the funds through grants from charitable trusts and donations from our generous supporters and families.
We will be carrying out alterations and refurbishments to further houses over the coming years for children and young people, so if you would like to help us with our refurbishment programme, you can donate in the following ways:
